STUDY OF CHITOSAN CROSSLINKED WITH GLUTARALDEYDE AS BIOCOMPOSITE MATERIAL
Dr.A.R.Raut* and S.R.Khairkar
ABSTRACT
Chitosan crosslinked with glutaraldehyde material were prepared by
cross linking chitosan with glutaraldehyde. This study also deals
characterization cross-linked chitosan-glutaraldehyde which conform
stability of composite. The swelling behavior was observed to be
dependent on pH, temperature and the degree of crosslinking. The
Physico-chemical and structural characterization revealed that the
cross-linking of chitosan with glutaraldehyde resulted in a rougher
surface morphology, a characteristic Fourier transform infrared (FTIR)
band at 1555 cm−1, a specific X-ray diffraction peak centered at 2θ =
14°, a lower contents of carbon, hydrogen ,nitrogen and a higher
stability of glucose units compared to chitosan based biocomposite on scanning electron
microscopic observation, FTIR spectra, X-ray diffraction pattern, DSC as well as Elemental
Analysis . Overall, this study indicated that cross-linked chitosan-glutaraldehyde is
promising to be developed as a new material as biocomposite.
