lstonia Scholaris Linn. (Apocynaceae) is a glabrous, evergreen tree native to native subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Its Sanskrit names are saptaparna, Sapthachada and Chatraparna. It found throughout India, Ceylon – java, tropical Africa and east Australia. In Ayurveda it is used as a bitter and as an astringent herb for treating skin disorders, malarial fever, urticaria, chronic dysentery, diarrhea, in snake bite and for upper purification process of panchakarma. The milky juice of the tree is applied to ulcers. The bark contains alkaloids ditamine, echitenine and echitamine and used to serve as an alternative to quinine. Bark is acrid, bitter and use as appetizer, laxative, anthelmintic and galactagogue. Milky juice obtained applied to ulcer. The leaves roasted and pulverized useful in ulcers with foul discharge.
