ABSTRACT

Electrochemical reduction of thiacetazone was studied at different concentrations and pH using differential pulse polarography (DPP). A method for the differential pulse polarographic determination of Thiacetazone has been developed based on the electrochemistry of thiosemicarbazone group in the drug. Quantitative measurements were successful in the concentration range of 1.50x10-5 to 2.50x10-9 mol dm-3 with the lower detection limit of 2.10x10-9 mol dm-3. The method is simple and not time consuming because nitrogen gas purging of samples and previous separation of the excipients were not necessary. Recovery data and composite and uniformity content studies for the method are reported. The procedure was successfully applied to pharmaceutical formulations and biological fluids. Both the standard addition and calibration methods are used.

Keywords: Thiacetazone, DPP, excipients, pharmaceutical dosage forms, spiked urine samples, standard addition method.
