Abstract

ELECTROCHEMICAL INVESTIGATION ON FERTILITY STATUS OF SOILS AND SEDIMENTS AND THEIR YIELD POTENTIAL IN BAGALKOT DISTRICT, KARNATAKA STATE, INDIA.

ABSTRACT

The electrochemical behavior of soil and sediment samples from the selected area of cultivated lands has been investigated on the basis of flame photometer, visible Spectrophotometer and Atomic Absorption Sphectrophotometric methods in different buffers at the ranges of 2.0 to 12.0. The levels of Physico-chemical characterization such as Bulk density, Water holding capacity, Texture, pH, EC, Sodium and CaCO3. The major nutrients such as Organic Carbon, Available Nitrogen, Available Phosphorous and Available Potash. The secondary nutrients such as Calcium, Magnesium and Sulphur. Major nutrients such as Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Boron and Molybdenum were determined in soil and sediment samples after flood and heavy irrigation of cultivated lands around the belt of River Krishna across Bagalkot District. The investigation carried to evaluate the salinity of soils, assessment of Organic Carbon and other nutrients etc., and their spatial variability and distribution of soil properties at the cultivated lands. The affect of yield potential, hydrological response, and diversity of herbicides to soil surface, fertilizer addition, and heavy irrigation will cause positive and negative effect on soils and sediments properties during the pre-Monsoon, Monsoon and Post-Monsoon. Each samples were collected using grid sampling design method with 1000 to 2000 meters distance based soil and sediments variability were selected and analyzed as per the electrochemical standards methods.
