EVALUATION OF RENAL AND HYPOGLYCAEMIC ACTIVITIES OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACT OF ERIOBOTRYA JAPONICA FRUITS IN SWISS ALBINO MICE
Sabeeha Shafi* and Nahida Tabassum
ABSTRACT
The present study was undertaken to evaluate the phytochemical
constituents, renal and hypoglycaemic effects of the ethanolic
extract of the fruits of Eriobotrya japonica, commonly called as
Loquat in Kashmir. The renal effects were determined by estimating
the kidney function tests i.e., serum urea levels, serum creatinine
levels, serum total proteins and serum albumin levels. The
hypoglycaemic effects were determined by estimating blood glucose
levels. The effects were compared with the normal control swiss
albino mice. Histopathology of kidney was also done. The results
showed significant hypoglycaemic effects and variable renal
biochemical effects. The histopathology of kidney did not show any
toxic signs.
Keywords: phytochemical constituents, renal and hypoglycaemic.
