ABSTRACT
This paper describes the validation of a developed a new
spectrophotometric method for the determination of Roxythromycin in
pharmaceutical for mulations. In this method is based on the reaction
of roxythromycin with 2,3 – dichloro – 5,6 dicyano – 1,4 –
benzoquinone (DDQ) in acetonitrile mixture to form dark red colour
charge transfer complex solution. This dark red colour solution was
stable for more than 24hrs and was used to detcrmine the roxy
thromycin spectrophotometrically. The absorbance of the dark red
colour solution was measured at the wave length range of 400 to
600nm, against the reagent blank. The calibration graph was obtained
by plotting absorbance values against the concentrations of
roxythromycin solution. The calibration curve was found to be linear
over a concentration range of 50-250 g / ml roxythromycin.
The linearity of the curve obtained indicates that it obeys Beer’s law. Results of analysis were
validated statisticaly and by recovery studies. The procedures deseribed were successfully
applied to the determination of roxythromycin in tablets.
