Abstract

SOLID DISPERSION TECHNIQUE FOR SOLUBILITY ENHANCEMENT OF WEAKLY WATER SOLUBLE DRUG (NAPROXEN)

Shweta U. Kannao* and Dr. B. V. Bakade

ABSTRACT

Therapeutic effectiveness of a drug depends upon the bioavailability and ultimately upon the solubility of drug molecules. Solubility is one of the important parameter to achieve desired concentration of drug in systemic circulation for pharmacological response to be shown. pharmaceutical research that focus on improving the oral bioavailability of active agents include; enhancing solubility and dissolution rate of poorly water-soluble drugs and enhancing permeability of poorly water soluble drugs. There are different techniques to enhance the solubility of drug, among these solid dispersions have been known to be one of the recent means of improving the dissolution rate by enhancement of solubility and hence the bioavailability of poorly water soluble drugs. Solid dispersion refers to a group of solid products consisting of at least two different components, generally a hydrophilic matrix and a hydrophobic drug. The matrix can be either crystalline or amorphous. The drug can be dispersed molecularly, in amorphous particles (clusters) or in crystalline particles.

Keywords: Solubility, bioavailability, solid dispersions.
