Abstract

EVALUATION OF SHIROBHYANGA AND PADABHYANGA IN ANIDRA WSR TO INSOMNIA

Dr. Nidhi Sharma*

ABSTRACT

Anidra is defined as qualitative or quantitative sleep deficiency. It has been depicted in Ayurveda classics as a pure vata disease.[1] It is known as Insomnia in allied science. Now a days it has become a common problem mainly because of various stressful conditions. Ayurveda offers various therapies for lowering down stress and in turn inducing sleep. According to Ayurveda, the general treatment principle of curable diseases is the administration of measures possessing qualities opposite to that of vitiated dosha with due regard to the place, dose and time.[2] In classics abhyanga, especially shirobhyanga and padabhyanga has been predominantly indicated for inducing sleep.[3,4] The present clinical trial deals with evaluation and comparison of the efficacies of shirobhyanga and padabhyanga in stress induced insomnia. Shirobhyanga was proved to be highly significant in increasing total sleep duration and relieving symptoms like jrimbha and shirogaurav. Padabhyanga was seen highly effective in improving day time functioning, angamarda and apakti.

Keywords: Anidra, insomnia, dosha, abhyanga.
