Abstract

“PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING AND ANTIMICROBIAL POTENTIAL OF KEDROSTRIS ROSTRATA (ROTTL.) COGN”(CURCURBIATCEAE)

Hemantkumar A. Thakur* and M. R. Bhamare

ABSTRACT

Kedrostis rostrata (Rottl.) Cogn., a medicinal plant belongs to the family of Cucurbitaceae. Traditionally the plant was used in the treatment of small pox and skin diseases. The present study deals with the Preliminary phytochemical screening reveals the presence of alkaloids, carbohydrates, protein and amino acid, flavonoids, tannins, phenols, fixed oils, glycosides and saponins. five crude extracts were prepared from the tuber part of Kedrostis rostrata using a different solvents by Soxhlet method. The extracts were subjected to screening to detect potential antimicrobial activity against E. Coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia, Salmonella typhi and fungal strain Candida albicans as standard by agar well diffusion method. The aim of our present study was to find out the Preliminary photochemical screening and antimicrobial potential of the different extracts of tuber part of Kedrostis rostrata. The different extracts such as Hexane, Methanol, Acetone, petroleum ether and aqueous extracts exhibits comparable antimicrobial activity with the control.

Keywords: Kedrostris rostrata, Phytochemical Screening and Antimicrobial Potential.
