NUTRITIONAL FACTOR AND ANTIOXIDNAT POTENTIAL OF GUIZOTIA ABYSSINICA CASS. POPULARLY USED EDIBLE SEED OIL

Abstract Guizotia abyssinica Cass. source of oil seed with rich nutritional factor and healthy source of edible oil, used commonly at few parts of India and other countries as a source of food, medicine apart from other usage. Material and Methods: Matured seeds of G. abyssinica Cass. were collected from their natural habitat during fruiting season, sample dried properly, powdered and preserved for further study. Nutritional value assessment was carried out for total fat, crude fibre, total carbohydrate and total protein as per standard protocol. In-vitro, antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract of seed was carried out by DPPH, Nitric oxide, Hydroxyl radical and inhibitory activity for hydrogen peroxide assay method. Results: Nutritional assessment of G. abyssinica Cass. Seeds showed the presence of fat 29.95% w/w, protein 22.75% w/w, carbohydrate 18.15% and fibre about 12.0%w/w. The seed extract showed dose dependent antioxidant potential for hydrogen peroxide inhibition and it has the inhibitory capacity of 213.768μg/ml. Keywords: .
