AN ARTICLE ON DAGDHAVRANA W.S.R TO SUSHRUT SAMHITA

Abstract Burn injuries represent a major global public health concern, causing approximately 180,000 deaths each year worldwide. In India, the estimated annual incidence of burns is around 6–7 million cases. In Ayurvedic literature, burn injuries are referred to as Dagdha Vrana. The concept of Dagdha Vrana is described in several classical texts, with detailed explanations available in the Sushruta Samhita. This text outlines the classification, clinical manifestations, and comprehensive management of burns based on their types. Ayurveda also mentions the use of therapeutic burns as part of treatment practices. This article presents a compilation of the classification, clinical features, and management of burn injuries (Dagdha Vrana) with particular emphasis on the descriptions found in the Sushruta Samhita.
