ROLE OF STANYASHODHKA GANA KWATHA WITH MADHUMEHARI CHURNA AND SHATAPUSHPA KALPA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROME (DHATWAGNI MANDYA JANYA BEEJAGRANTHI VIKARA) – A RANDOMIZED COMPARATIVE CLINICAL STUDY

Abstract

Background: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a burgeoning endocrinopathy affecting 20-30% of women of reproductive age, characterized by oligo-anovulation, hyperandrogenism, and polycystic ovarian morphology. In Ayurveda, PCOS does not have a single eponymous correlate but can be understood as Dhatwagni Mandya Janya Beejagranthi Vikara – a disorder arising from hypofunctioning tissue metabolism leading to cystic formation in the Beeja (ovaries). The pathogenesis involves vitiation of Kapha and Meda Dhatu causing Avarana (obstruction) of Apana Vata, resulting in Artava Kshaya (menstrual dysfunction) and Granthi (cystic) formation. Aim: To evaluate and compare the combined therapeutic efficacy of Stanyashodhka Gana Kwatha, Madhumehari Churna, and Shatapushpa Kalpa in the comprehensive management of PCOS. Method: A randomized comparative clinical study will be conducted on diagnosed PCOS patients, assessing improvements in menstrual regularity, ovarian morphology, hormonal profile, and metabolic parameters. Result: The synergistic action of the three interventions is hypothesized to address the systemic metabolic derangement and local reproductive pathology through Srotoshodhana, Deepana-Pachana, Medohara, Artavajanana, and Vatanulomana actions, effectively restoring ovulatory function and metabolic balance. Conclusion: The integrated Ayurvedic approach targeting the root pathology of Dhatwagni Mandya offers a safe, holistic, and potentially definitive management strategy for PCOS, addressing both metabolic and reproductive dimensions without the side effects of conventional hormonal therapy.
