AN EXPLORATION OF NUTRACEUTICAL CONCEPTS IN AYURVEDA WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON SWARNA BHASMA
Dr. Pratibha Vyas, Dr. R. K. Pati, Dr. Utsav Mehta
Abstract This article delves into the integration of nutraceutical concepts within Ayurveda, focusing specifically on traditional gold preparations. The term "nutraceutical," coined by Dr. Stephen DeFelice, represents a fusion of nutrition and pharmaceuticals, increasingly recognized for its potential in health promotion and disease prevention, particularly against non-communicable diseases (NCDs) that account for a significant percentage of global mortality. Ayurveda's holistic approach emphasizes preventive care through dietary practices and herbal formulations, aligning with contemporary nutraceutical paradigms. We further discuss the role of Swarna Bhasma and other formulations within the framework of Ayurvedic nutraceuticals, highlighting its immunomodulatory effects, which enhance the body's defense mechanisms and have shown significant improvements in immune function in clinical studies. As a powerful rejuvenator (Rasayana), Swarna Bhasma is utilized for anti-aging and vitality, demonstrating promising results in skin health and oxidative stress reduction. Its neuroprotective properties support cognitive enhancement, with studies indicating improvements in memory and reductions in neuroinflammation. Furthermore, Swarna Bhasma effectively manages chronic conditions, such as diabetes and arthritis, through its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Keywords: .
