Abstract

The present study focuses on the formulation and evaluation of Domperidone medicated lollipops as an innovative oral drug delivery system. Conventional oral dosage forms may present difficulties in administration and patient compliance, particularly in patients experiencing nausea and vomiting. Medicated lollipops provide a palatable and patient-friendly alternative dosage form that allows prolonged residence time in the oral cavity and gradual release of the incorporated drug. Domperidone is a dopamine Dâ‚‚-receptor antagonist commonly used for the management of nausea and vomiting. Therefore, Domperidone was selected as the active pharmaceutical ingredient for the development of a medicated lollipop. The lollipops were prepared using suitable pharmaceutical excipients and polymers such as hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) to investigate their influence on the physicochemical properties and drug-release characteristics of the formulation. The prepared lollipops were evaluated for physical appearance, thickness, weight variation, hardness, friability, drug content, disintegration time, and in-vitro drug release. The developed Domperidone medicated lollipops are intended to provide a convenient, palatable, and patient-friendly alternative to conventional oral dosage forms, with the potential to improve medication acceptability and compliance.
