FDA APPROVED NATURAL POLYMERS IN MICROSPHERE FORMULATION
Sartaz Ali*, Nayyar Parvez, Md. Aftab Alam and Pramod Kumar Sharma
Abstract Polymers are widely used to control drug release rate from the formations. Natural polymers are cheap, biodegradable and have been proved safe for pharmaceutical formulation. Excipients along with the polymers help in the manufacturing of dosage forms and it also improves physicochemical parameters of the dosage form. Polymers are widely being studied as a potential carrier material for site specific drug delivery because of its non-toxic, biocompatible in nature. Natural polysaccharides have been investigated for drug delivery applications as well as in biomedical fields. Now a day, the polymer is being modified to obtain novel biomaterial for controlled drug delivery applications. This review provides an overview of the different polymers used in the formulation of microsphere formulation. Keywords: Plants, gums, mucilage, rosin, guar gum, sustained release, microspheres.
