GC-MS ANALYSIS OF BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS FROM WHOLE BODY TISSUE METHANOLIC EXTRACT OF CYPRAEA ARABICA (L.1758)

Abstract Marine organisms offer infinite source to discover useful therapeutics. Apart from the food that is derived from the marine environment, a wide variety of bioactive substances is being isolated and characterized several with great promise for the treatment of human disease. Today most infectious diseases can be brought under control with natural or synthetic drug products. We are still in need of safer, cheaper and effective drug products. The present study has been carried out to characterize the bioactive substance present in Cypraea arabica by GC-MS analysis. The GC-MS analysis of methanol extract confirmed the presence of 23 active compounds. Several compounds were confirmed in the gastropod extract with the prominent peak of stearic acid ester (26.38%).
