FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF FLOATING MATRIX TABLET OF CEFADROXIL MONOHYDRATEFarooqui Z S*, Syed S M, Saifee Maria, Hundekari G I
Abstract The purpose of this research was to prepare a gastro retentive drug delivery system of Cefadroxil monohydrate. Xanthan gum and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose were evaluated for gel-forming properties. Sodium bicarbonate was incorporated as a gas-generating agent. The effects of xanthan gum and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose on drug release profile and floating properties were investigated. A 32 full factorial design was applied to systemically optimize the drug release profile. The amounts of HPMC K4M (X1) and xanthan gum (X2) were selected as independent variables. The dependent variable such as floating lag time, drug release profile was evaluated. It was found that F4 formulation was best by applying design expert software version 3.2.08. Stability study was carried out for F4 formulation at 40 ± 20C / 75 5% RH for a period of three month. Keywords: Cefadroxil monohydrate, gastro retentive, floating drug delivery, sustained release.
