THE EFFECT OF PARTICLE SIZE OF AL2O3 ON THE BOND STRENGTH OF DENTAL METAL-CERAMIC JOINTS
Ahmed B. Al-Daboo*, Sabiha M. Kanaan and Furat I. Hussein
Abstract Background: Modern dentistry has led to the development of metalfreerestorations (all ceramic restoration). But, metal ceramicrestorations are still used widely since these restorations have goodclinical performance and low cost. Many studies have been done toovercome on the failure of ceramic debonding. Objective: To evaluatethe effect of particle size of Al2O3 on the bonding strength of dentalceramic to the metal framework. Material and method: Twenty metalsamples made by lost wax technique with dimensions (25 x 3 x 0.5mm), casting from Nickel-Chromium alloy. The metal samples sandblasting with aluminium oxide , two size of sand particle size are used ,group A1 sand blasted with 125 μm Al2O3; group A2 sand blasted with250 μm Al2O3. Ten samples for each group. Then the metal samplesveneered with feld- spathic ceramic layer (8 x 3 x 1.1 mm). The metal-ceramic samplessubjected to three points flexural test to evaluate the bonding strength for each sample. T-testwas used in statistical analysis of this study. Results: the highest bond strength was recordedwith used of 250 μm Al2O3. According to the T-test there is a significant different betweengroup A1 and A2. Keywords: Bond strength, Metal-ceramic, Sand blast, Aluminium oxide Al2O3. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
