COMPARISON OF BENEFICIAL FACTS AMONG THE SELECTED PENAEID SHRIMP SPECIES FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES AND THEIR GENETIC CHARACTERIZATION

Abstract The shrimp fishery is a major global industry with more than 3.4 million tons caught per year, chiefly in Asia. Small-scale local fisheries for (shrimp) prawns have existed for centuries, and continue to form a large proportion of the world's shrimp fisheries. Fewer than 300 species of shrimps and prawns are of commercial importance, in which 20 of these species are commercially significant out of a total of 3000 species.
