PHYSICO-CHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF GANDHI MATHIRAI – A HERBO MINERAL PREPARATION

Abstract Formulations in siddha system of medicine consist of substances such as herbal, mineral, metal and animal origin which are processed pharmaceutical to have therapeutic effects. Standardization of herbal formulation is essential in order to assess the quality of the drugs. The present paper reports preparation and standardization of herbomineral formulation which contains Ganthagam (Sulphur), Kaatu Pagal (Momorandica dioica), Kadukkai (Terminalia chebula), Karunai Kizhangu (Typhonium trilobatum), Sembai (Sesbania sesban). Here we discussed and focused about physico chemical, preliminary phytochemical, thin layer chromatography and high performance thin layer chromatography finger printing etc. From the results of the study, it was evident that the siddha formulation Gandhi mathirai complies with the standard and may be used for clinical practice.
