SAMSKARAS - APPLIED ASPECT

Abstract During the span of growth and development, an individual pass through the different phases of sensory, motor, neuromuscular, psychological and social developments. These various types of developments are termed as developmental milestones. These developments should occur at particular period otherwise called as delayed developmental milestones. Ayurveda describes different Samskaras in different period to mark attainment of these milestones that ensure proper growth and development. The number of Samskaras varies; it is about 20-40.Samskaras are considered as an important cultural event of an individual‟s life right from the time of conception up to death possessing both socio-cultural as well as medical significance. These are the turning points of life of an individual and need to be celebrated. These ritualsmay enable physician to assess the growth and development of a child and diagnosis of disease while performing these Samskaras.
