“AN AYURVEDA MANAGEMENT IN AAMVATA W.S.R. RHEUMATOID ARTHRITISâ€- A REVIEW ARTICLE

Abstract Ayurveda is a holistic way of living to human beings. Pain is probably the commonest and biggest problem in human beings. The disease Rheumatoid Arthritis can be presented as a very similar to Aamvata. The disease Rheumatoid Arthritis is chronic in nature and affects mostly the middle aged group. It is one of the common debilitating disease is frequent during 4th and 5th decade of life with 80% of patients developing the disease between 30 to 50 years of age. Community prevalence study shows that female are more sufferer than male and the ratio of occurrence between them is 3:1.[1] Acharya Chakradutta has mentioned about Aamvata Chikitsa. Rheumatoid Arthritis has been described by the term Aamvata and Aamajroga in Ayurvedic text. Also Aamvata is included in Aamajroga.[2] Acharya Madhav mentioned Aamvata as disease of Vata and Kapha dosha, he stated that Vata Kapha dosha Prakopa, Agni dusti and vitiated Rasvaha srotas are leading factor in the pathogenesis of Aamvata.[3] The Treatment of Aamvata described in Ayurvedic classics as Nidana Privarjarna, Langhana chikitsa, Swedana, Tikata & Deepaniya Herbs Virechna, Snehpan, Basti, Shodhana & Shaman chikitsa and Pathyapthya.[4] Pathyas are mentioned in two different form i.e. Aharaja pathya like Purana Shali, Kulattha Takra, Madhu etc. Viharaja pathyas like Vyayamas Adhwagamana etc. When pathya is followed along with the Treatment procedures, gives better result.
