Abstract

Drug is one of the pillars of the Chikitsa’s Chatuspada as mentioned in our texts. The main reason behind the cure of a disease is its Samprapti Vighatana, hence the drug should be selected keeping this fact in mind. Since antiquity man has been searching new drugs to combat different diseases which become difficult to cure, by the pathies of that era. Shirish is a miraculous drug mentioned in the samhitas which has a vast area of use due to its antitoxic potentials. In the present article a complete description of shirish with its uses mentioned in samhitas, nighantus and in different botanical texts has been expressed.
