MUSTADI KWATH: A DRUG REVIEW

Abstract One of the leading causes of abdominal pain in children is intestinal parasites (commonly called as worms). Worms reside in the intestine feed off child’s nutrition. So children have lack of nutrition. Children having worm infestation suffer from fever, pain, burning sensation, jhyuiywhite spots on skin etc. Mustadi Kwath is an Ayurvedic medicine for Worm infestation. The drug has tikta, katu, kashaya ras, ushana virya, and katu vipak thus it has work on worms aacording to. It is mentioned in book of Ayurvedic pharmacy, Chakradatta and Astang Sangrah, Bhaisajya Ratnavali. Mustadi kwath is an ayurvedic formulation described in various treatise of Ayurveda. It is prepared as kwath (decoction). The drug mainly acts on krimi and certain other diseases like fever, indigestion, pain in abdomen, diarrhea, dysentery, and specific and non specific colitis etc. Keywords: Worm infestation, krimi roga, Mustadi kwath.
