Abstract
Acharaya Sushruta is the first to explain about the traumatology by
introducing the concept of Marma i.e vulnerable areas of body. There
are 107 Marma points over the body, injury of which leads to death or
disruption in function of involved area or severe pain. Acharaya
Sushruta has classified Marma under following headings i.e Mamsa,
Sira, Snayu, Asthi and Sandhi Marma. Koorchasira Marma is one
among the 27 Snayu Marma. Although the Viddha lakshanas are
available in Samhitas, but detail description of the structures present in
the area of Koorchasira Marma are lacking in ancient texts. Aim of
our study is to find out the exact location of Koorchasira Marma and
appropriate structures related to Koorchasira Marma. The anatomical structures at site of
Marma are observed and analysed through different texts and previous researches. We
conclude by considering the Koorchasira Marma anatomically as the flexor and extensor
retinaculum by measures approximately 1 Angula (approximately 2cm) area below
Manibandha (wrist joint).
Keywords: Mamsa, Sira, Snayu, Asthi and Sandhi Marma.
