A CONCEPTUAL STUDY ON SUPTIVATA W.S.R TO MERALGIA PARESTHETICA

Abstract
Suptivata described under Vatavyadhi in Ayurvedic texts. It is itself a
disease and also feature of other diseases like Tvakgata Vata,
Raktavrita Vata, Vatarakta and Vyanavrita Prana. Suptivata may
occurs as localized or as generalized. Suptivata can be simulated with
meralgia paresthetica in modern science. Trauma, compression,
demyelination of lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh causes meralgia
paresthetica whereas Abhighata and Dhatukshaya aggravate Vata
Dosha which results Suptivata. Prasuptata, Sparsadwesha are the
symptoms of Suptivata and numbness, hyperaesthesia, mild pain is the
symptoms of meralgia paresthetica. Modern medical sciences have no
specific treatment for meralgia paresthetica and used anaesthetic and
antipsychotic drugs for treatment which may harmful to the organs
functioning normally. Ayurvedic therapies like Abhyanga, Upanaha and medicines can be
advised for treatment without any harmful effect.
