ROLE OF DURVADI LEPA IN HAND, FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE – A CASE STUDY

Abstract
Hand Foot Mouth disease is highly contagious disease substantially found in toddlers and school going children’s i.e. below 10 years of age and sometimes also in immunocompramised adults. It is a viral infection characterized by a typical maculopapular or vesicular eruptions on the hands and feet and in the oral cavity. In this disease there is mainly modern treatment like Anti viral, topical corticosteroids or analgesics are available which tends to have many side effects. . In Ayurveda classics the treatment procedures for HFMD are not elaborately explained. So here a small attempt is made to overcome this disease by Ayurveda perspective not in severe case of HFMD to prevent the complications and to implement the precautionary measures during outbreaks. A 15 month old male child having complaints of circular elevated erythematous papules over palms of both hands, soles of foot, bilateral legs and some reddish circular papules over the tongue and difficulties during swallowing or drinking was treated with local application of Durvadi Lepa mixed with Takra and changes were noted in lakshanas such as Kandu (itching), Raktavarna (erythema), Shoola (pain) and Pidika unnati (Papule/vesicular elevation). Details of the finding are discussed in this case report.
