Abstract

QUALITY EVALUATION AND STANDARDIZATION OF TRADITIONAL UNANI MEDICINE MAJOON-E-PUMBA DANA

Abstract

Majoon-e-Pumba Dana is a traditional Unani medicine in semi solid form and commonly used for the clinical treatment of attenuated semen, premature ejaculation, sperm atorrhea. In the present research work an attempt has been made to establish the physicochemical, phytochemical and safety profile of Majoon-e-Pumba Dana which are useful for its quality control and standardization. Standard operating procedure for the preparation of Majoon-e-Pumba Dana was developed in accordance with National Formulary of Unani Medicine. The formulation was also subjected to physicochemical and phytochemical evaluation. Chemical characterization of the formulation was carried out on the basis of Pharmacopoeial standards of each ingredient in the formulation composition. Hence the findings of the present work can be used as a reference standard by quality control assurance department of pharmaceutical manufacturers and other stake holders including researchers in order to have a proper quality check over its preparation and processing.
