LEECH THERAPY (JALAUKAVACHARANA) IN AYURVEDA FOR FACIAL SKIN REJUVENATION: A SCIENTIFIC REVIEW

Abstract Ayurveda is a novel gift for human beings which gives numerous modalities to the modern world and Leech therapy is one of them. Jalaukavcharana is the types of Rakthamokshana and detailed description of Jalaukavcharana is available in Ayurveda. Leech therapy is a safer method of treatment, its use is exceeding nowadays for managing of various chronic disorders like chronic eczema, psoriasis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, sciatica, inflammatory reactions, acne vulgaris, varicose veins, rheumatic diseases, Ischemic heart disease, complicated wounds, boils and abscesses, thrombosis, alopecia etc. Some diseases have great impact on the lives as “Cosmetic Problem” especially anomalies related to face and skin, everyone mostly youngsters are most cautious and careful about such diseases. According to Ayurveda, it removes toxins and vitiated Doshas which are accumulated in the body. Numerous bioactive constituent of Leech saliva possesses anti-inflammatory, analgesic, thrombolytic, antioxidant, vasodilator, anti-coagulant and blood circulation enhancing properties.
