ROLE OF SHIRODHARA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF HYPERTENSION

Abstract The man in today’s era is breathing under various stresses, anxiety and unnatural food habits. This type of lifestyle produces a lot of hazards in the form of psycho-physiological disturbances. Hypertension is one of those fatal disease. Western therapy is successful to some extent in controlling this disorder, but it has its own adverse effects. Out of total hypertensive patients, 95% patients are having essential hypertension. On the basis of Lakshanas it can be compared with Vata vyadhi along with kapha, pitta doshas and rakta dhatu involvement. Shirodhara involves the rhythmic and consistent flow of lukewarm ayurvedic oils on the forehead. This stimulates the chakra point just above and between the eyebrows and creates a blissful sensation, improving blood circulation to the brain and stimulates the pituitary and pineal glands and improves their functions. It cures mental strain thus helpful to much extent in the management of Hypertension. Thus, here an effort is made to explain the role of Shirodhara in the management of hypertension.
