COVID-19: A PRACTICAL PLAN OF SIDDHA INTERVENTION IN INDIA

Abstract

Corona virus is a large family of virus which may cause illness in humans or animals. In humans, several corona viruses are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). The recently discovered corona virus is called as COVID-19. This new virus outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. Till date, there is no vaccine or no specific antiviral medicine to prevent or treat COVID-19. However, those who are affected should receive appropriate care to relieve symptoms. People with serious illness should be hospitalized. Day by day the number of cases of COVID-19 infection in India is increasing. With the Spread over more than 28 states, isolation and social distancing is the general measures taken up by the public promoted by the government in the form of lockdown. Usually, Thottru Noigal (communicable diseases) associated with Aiya kutram (Respiratory related Illness) gets affected due to its Sthiram gunam (stability factor). In Guru Naadi, Thottru Noigal generally caused by Kirumi (Pathogens). The symptoms are due to Noiyinan vanmai (Immunity of individual) and if it is good, he/she will not be affected. So, the Medicines are used to neutralize the Aiya kutram. So the usage of Siddha drugs as an intervention in this pandemic situation is inevitable. Herewith I have discussed about the intervention of Siddha drugs approved by the Ministry of AYUSH as a practitioner guidelines for COVID-19. Not only drugs like Kabasura Kudineer and Nilavembu Kudineer, Adathodai Manapagu, many other drugs have been mentioned by the Ministry for usage according to the different health conditions of the individuals. Along with that the general preventive measures are also provided by the Ministry of AYUSH and those are discussed in detail in this paper.
