EXPLORING ANNALEPA THERAPY: A REVIEW

Abstract Introduction: Annalepa is a kind of Swedana where Shastik Shali is cooked with Godugdha and Bala Moola Kwatha and applied on subject‟s body. Physical conditions like- Disease of the nervous system, Paralysis, spinal cord degeneration, neuropathy, Fibromyalgia, degenerative disorders, emaciation, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, muscle wasting, Chronic fatigue syndrome, Avascular Necrosis, etc. where contemporary system of medicine seems helpless, to give complete relief without causing side effects, Ayurveda may provide treatment modalities as a ray of hope, for such conditions, which are time tested, effective, economical and negligible chances of adversities. Annalepa is one of them. It has Bhimhana Guna (nutritive effect), thus nourishes Muscular tissues. Material and Methods: Shastika Shali is cooked with milk and Bala Moola and gently applied in a synchronised manner by the two therapists on patient‟s body. It is followed by a gentle massage with other hand. The process should be continued till the patient gets Samyak Swinna Lakshana. This procedure is done in the seven positions as in Kayaseka (Abhyang). Conclusion: Annalepa helps in enhancing strength, nourishes the body tissues, prevents degenerative changes, helps in reducing the muscle spasm, prevents contractures, improves tone of muscles, increases the muscle bulk by proper nourishment of dhatus.
