BIOCHEMICAL QUANTIFICATION OF ADULT HAEMOGLOBLIN IN LEUKAEMIA

Abstract

This review summarises the current knowledge regarding the clinical utility of technologies and biochemicals for the haemoglobin estimation. The intention of this study is to interpret the patterns of adult haemoglobin in different forms of leukaemia. There were many methods studied extensively for this purpose such as complete blood count (CBC) test, total RBC count, Serum ferritin level test, Isoelectric focusing or high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), Haemoglobincyanide (HiCN) method, Vanzetti's azide methemoglobin and Sahli's method. Majority of the method is based on measuring the colour of Hb or a derivative of Hb. Several studies have been done on the role of Hb estimation for the diagnosis of different blood disorders as well as other diseases. Some necessary relevant studies have been cited here to give an insight into the researches done so far. Hb estimation is, in fact, the most common routine biochemical workup that is done to monitor the development and progression of a diseased condition as well as treatment response.
