A REVIEW ON GASTRO RETENTIVE FLOATING DOSAGE FORMS TO ACHIEVE GASTRIC RETENTION
Shashanka K. N.*, Mamatha G. T., Parthiban S. and Senthil Kumar G. P.
Abstract The purpose of writing this review on gastro retentive floating drug delivery system was to compile the recent literature with special focus on the floating drug delivery systems, principal and mechanism of floatation to achieve gastric retention. Drug delivery systems are those that float immediately upon contact with gastric fluids present promising approaches for increasing the bioavailability of drugs with absorption windows in the upper small intestine. Whereas prolonged gastric residence increases duration of drug release, reduces drug waste and improves solubility of drugs that are less soluble in high pH enviornment. This review explains about factors affecting floating system, advantages, disadvantages, approaches, mechanism of floating, evaluation parameters and application of the system. Keywords: Gastric residence time, Floating system, gastro retentive drug delivery approaches and evaluation techniques. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
