COMPARATIVE ANTI-MICROBIAL STUDY OF ALCOHOLIC EXTRACT OF HIBISCUS ROSA-SINESIS WITH MARKETED FORMULATION
Akash Shaw*, Sudhanshu Mishra and Dishari Dutta
Abstract Urinary tract infection is a common infection affecting mostly women, causing discomfort while urination, pain in the lower abdomen, and urine retention. This disease can be recurrent and the use of synthetic compounds like Nitrofurantoin, Amoxycilline becomes inevitable. The use of such antibiotics has side effects on using a longer period. The use of alternative medicine can prevent the recurrent occurrence of disease and can be cost-effective as well. This research focuses on the comparison of in –vitro antimicrobial activity of leaf part of Hibiscus rosa sinensis and UTIPaC™ (already marketed formulation prescribed for prevention of UTI). UTIPaC™ contains Pacran™ and Elirose® which is American cranberry extract, Hibiscus sabdariffa aerial extract, respectively. It also contains Lactobacillus acidophilus, Hibiscus sabdariffa, which is native to West Africa and Cranberry is native to America. The work focuses on a comparison between their antimicrobial activity so that alternative medicine could be formulated from plants that are easily available in India. Keywords: Urinary Tract infection, Re-current infection, Elirose®, Pacranâ„¢. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
