Abstract

A CLINICAL STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFICACY OF SNUHI KSHAR LEPA AND ARKA KSHAR LEPA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ARSHA (INTERNAL PILES)

Abstract

Background: Piles commonly known as haemorrhoids is one of the common disease among anorectal diseases in society. It is progressively increasing in the society day by day. Piles are dilated veins occurring in relation to the anus. Acharya Sushruta has included it in Ashta Mahagada (Eight grave diseases).[1] There is no single treatment that accepted uniformly. Number of treatments are currently available .The father of Indian surgery Acharya Sushruta has given four modalities of treatment- Bheshaj Chikitsa, Kshar Karma Chikitsa, Agni karma Chikitsa and Shastra Karma Chikitsa and has given the elaborate recommendation of Kshar Karma as a local use for Arsha management. Aims: The present study aimed to evaluate efficacy of Snuhi Kshar Lepa and Arka Kshar Lepa and to compare their efficacy in the management of internal piles. Kshar Lepa Vidhi is a local Kshar application, and appears to be effective with an easy procedure. Material and Methods: In the present study total 30 patients in the age group of 16-65 years were registered and divided into two groups. In Group-A, n=15; (Snuhi Kshar Lepa application) and In Group-B, n=15 (Arka Kshar Lepa application was done). Paired-T test was applied to see the efficacy of Snuhi Kshar and Arka Kshar. To compare both Kshar Un-Paired-T test was applied. The effect of therapy was assessed on the basis of relief in subjective and objective criteria.
