AN OVERVIEW ON COVID-19 OUTBREAK: PANDEMIC TO ENDEMIC

Abstract

There is a new public health crises threatening the world with the emergence and spread of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) or the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The virus originated in bats and was transmitted to humans through yet unknown intermediary animals in Wuhan, Hubei province, China in December 2019. World Health Organization already had declared COVID-19 as an international emergency as the disease is spreading at alarming levels. COVID-19 has affected in 213 countries. Out of this more than one crore people has infected around the world and killed more than five lakhs people till 30th june. Corona virus might become an endemic disease, WHO has stated that from an epidemic originating from China to global pandemic, the novel Corona virus has affected people on a massive scale. There is no clear end that can be seen for this contagious viral disease as the numbers are increasing across the globe. The disease causes respiratory illness (like the flu) with symptoms such as a cough, fever, and in more severe cases, difficulty breathing. You can protect yourself by washing your hands frequently, avoiding touching your face, and avoiding close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people who are unwell. How it spreads: Corona virus disease spreads primarily through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze. It also spreads when a person touches a surface or objects that has the virus on it, and then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth. So in this article, we present on an overview of the presently obtainable information on Origin, epidemiology, clinical manifestations and diagnosis, treatment and management of this novel corona virus. This review also aimed to present the concept of epidemic, pandemic and endemic phases according to WHO in a defined manner.
