PHARMACOGNOSTIC AND PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING OF ARGEMONE MEXICANA

Abstract Introduction: Argemone mexicana is one of the most important plant belonging to papaveraceae family. It is native to India and grows in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. It used as anti-diabetic, anti inflammatory, anti fertility, anti bacterial, anti fungal. Therefore the present review is aimed to highlight the botanical characters, its Phytochemical and pharmacological activities in various diseases. Aim & Objective: The present study aimed at the extensive scientific evaluation of extracts and fractions of the aerial parts of Argemone mexicana Linn. followed by chromatographic separation, isolation, characterization and study of phytoconstituents from potent fractions. Results: The phytochemical screening indicated the presence of alkaloids, carbohydrates, triterpenoids, phytosterols, saponins, and tannins in extracts/fractions of A. Mexicana.
