FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF MEFENAMIC ACID SUSTAINED RELEASE MATRIX TABLETS

Abstract The objective of the present study was to develop once daily sustained release matrix tablets of Mefenamic Acid 200mg by using direct compression method using different polymers like HPMC K4M, HPMC K15M, HPMC K100M. The drug excipient mixtures were subjected pre formulation studies. The Tablet were subjected to physicochemical studies, In- Vitro drug release, kinetics studies. FTIR studies shown there was no interaction between drug and polymer. The drug release from optimized formulations was sustained for a period of 12hrs. The kinetic treatment of selected formulation F7 showed that the release of drug follows zero order models. Results of the present study indicated the suitability of hydrophilic polymers in the preparation of matrix based sustained release formulation of Mefenamic Acid. Keywords: .
