ROLE OF VATSANABHA IN INFECTIOUS DISEASES: A REVIEW

Abstract

Worldwide infectious diseases are extremely common. Infection is defined as disorder caused by pathogenic micro- organisms; such as bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi that can be spread directly or indirectly from one individual to another. The usage of synthetic drugs on infections like antibiotics, antifungal, antiviral have developed side effects & resistance against them. This leads to the search for the natural product from plant origin. Ayurveda drugs have unique dosage forms with various benefits over the synthetic drugs and more efficacy too. Ayurveda is the science of life that is widely practiced in India. It includes medicines prepared from plants, animals & minerals origin. All the three sources of drugs can be divided under poisonous & Nonpoisonous category. Vatsanabha is one of them which is consider as the most toxic plant in the world. Hence, listed out under the Visha Varga. It is the only Mahavisha which still identified & available and acts as Rasayana if administered after proper Shodhana (purification). Hence, after Shodhana Vatsanabha will be a good medicine to cure many infectious diseases. Thus, the present review is designed to extensively discuss and understand the role of Vatsanbha in infectious diseases.
