CURCUMIN AS A NATURAL APPROACH FOR TREATMENT OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE

Abstract
Alzheimer‟s disease a major neurodegenerative disorder that is
affecting more that 30 million individuals worldwide. The major
pathway associated with this disease are tau phosphorylation,
neuroinflammation and oxidative stress. For over a decade many
research are been carried out for the early diagnosis and treatment of
this neurodegenerative disorder. Curcumin the phytochemical agent
present in spice turmeric, have been found to be novel and natural
approach in diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer‟s disease. This
review is focused on the activities of curcumin that can prove potential
approach in diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer. Various challenges related to use of
curcumin as therapeutic drug and approaches to overcome these challenges. Findings suggest
that newer drug therapy associated with curcumin could become a promising therapy for
Alzheimer‟s disease.
