AN OVERVIEW OF THROMBOLYTIC ACTIVITY AND THEIR SCREENING METHODS
Varuva Ashok Kumar* and C. Girish
Abstract Thrombolytic disorders like myocardial and cerebral infraction are fatal blood clotting related diseases. Synthetic therapeutics used in such disorders have serious adverse effects, so there is a need to investigate some more safe natural thrombolytic agents. The discovery of thrombolytic agents goes back to the 1930s, when it was shown that substance derived from bacteria (streptokinase), tissue (fibrinokinase), urine (urokinase) or bat saliva could activated the fibrinolytic system. The potential to treat arterial thrombosis with plasmin was recognized, but it was not until 1958 that its first use in acute ischaemic stroke was described. The various screening methods for the thrombolytic activity in determination clot lysis in invitro methods from hexane and ethanol extractions and also used different grams of test solution are explained in this review. Keywords: Thrombolytic activity, Streptokinase, In vitro, % Clot lysis. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
