STATIN USE IN CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE: A SHORT COMMUNICATION

Abstract Hyperlipidaemia and atherosclerosis are most common risk factors for causing cardiovascular diseases. Statin is most widely used drug treatment to treat the hyperlipidaemia and for combination therapy in various cardiovascular disease to prevent future complication. Among all anti hyperlipidaemic drugs, statins are well tolerated and have better control over the lipid level. Apart from the beneficial role in various disease conditions, statins are also responsible for adverse effects and responsible for Type 2 diabetes mellitus, muscle related symptoms, Hepatotoxicity and renal toxicity.
