RECENT TRENDS IN PREVENTION OF DENTAL CARIES AND PERIODONTAL DISEASES: A REVIEW

Abstract Prevention of health is not an altruist concept. It is mankind's primary hope for improving health. Prevention is currently receiving much attention but the germ of the concept is far from new. Thousands of years ago Hippocrates suggested living on elevated hillsides and abandoning malarial swamps. The tradition of stressing prevention through diet and modification of lifestyle has a long history. New research is demonstrating that a person’s total health is indeed related to their oral health. Opportunities for early diagnosis and prevention of dental diseases will play an increasing role in dental practices in the future as patients understands the importance of oral health to overall health.
