Abstract

This review is intended to investigate the published report regarding phytochemical, ethnomedicinal, and pharmacological activities and put forth the therapeutic potential of Duranta repens Linn. (D. repens). The study was conducted with the objective of investigating the ethanolic extract fractions of the stem of Cleome gynandra L. by analyzing its bioactivity in stakes of Duranta repens, L. The extracts were separated from a dry ethanolic extract (20% tincture m/V) with the solvents ethyl ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate and distilled water and evaluated at doses of 50, 100, 150 mg m L-1, compared to a control to which only sterile distilled water was applied. However, better results of plant growth were obtained in solvents of higher polarity, especially the acetate and aqueous fractions. The fruits have been Extracted with n-hexane in previous study to separate the nonpolar components Duranta repens is reported to contain a wide array of secondary metabolites, including α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitors, and - has potent antioxidant activity. The present study evaluated the network pharmacology of D. repens (whole plant) with targets related to diabetes mellitus and assessed its outcome by evaluating the effects of the hydroalcoholic extract of D. repens in streptozotocin-nicotinamide-induced diabetes mellitus in rats.
