.

Abstract

Greying of hair in young age (before time) is termed as “Premature greying” referred to as “Akaala Palitya” in Ayurveda. It is the result of aggravation in Pitta dosha. There are various factors which contribute to it such as stress, pollution, improper food habits, genetics, etc. Premature greying lowers the confidence of an individual, compelling them to opt for various home remedies, chemical dyes, etc but with no fruitful results. In Ayurvedic granthas, Palitya is explained in detail. The use of Panchakarma as a treatment for Palitya is mentioned in the text. Nasya karma (nasal medication) is one of the prime treatment in it. There are various nasya yogas mentioned in the text. However, not much attention is paid to this treatment. Thus, this article will focus on significance of Nasya karma in Akaala Palitya and various yoga which can reverse premature greying and impart good texture to one’s hair.

Keywords: Urdhwajatrugata rogas, Akaala Palitya, Nasya.
