AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF STHAULYA (CHILDHOOD OBESITY): A CASE STUDY

. Abstract The incidence of childhood obesity has increased rapidly in the last decade & it has many adverse health effects. It is being recognized as a serious public health concern. The obesity indicates excessive fat and not merely excess weight. Several clinical and anthropometric parameters are used to diagnose obesity like body mass index, waist circumference, waist hip ratio, weight for height etc. The obesity has been described by term Sthaulya and Medoroga in Ayurvedic text and also included in Ashtanindita purusha. Kapha dosha, Agnidushti, vitiated Medo dhatu are the leading facts in the pathogenesis of Sthaulya. Line of treatment include Nidan Parivarjana, Guru Apatarpan Chikitsa, Satat Karshana, Laghu Santarpana Chikitsa, Langhana (Shodhana& Shamana rupi), Pathy-apathya. A 13 year male child brought by his parents with complaints of excessive weight gain and increased desire of food since 2 yrs. After a proper clinical examination and thorough evaluation we started treatment Deepana, Pachana, Udavartana, Nadisweda, Lekhanbasti, Vaman and physical exercise.
