ASSESSMENT OF THE MANAGEMENT OF DIABETES AND CARDIOVASCULAR COMPLICATIONS IN CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE PATIENTS

Abstract Background: There is a high risk of mortality in chronic kidney disease patients with cardiovascular complications and diabetes is one of the major causes of chronic kidney disease as well as it increases the progression of chronic kidney disease to end stage renal disease. Objective: To check the prevalence of cardiovascular complications and diabetes and to assess the prescribing pattern of drugs used for cardiovascular complications and diabetes in chronic kidney disease patients. Methodology: A prospective observational study conducted at PVS Hospital (P) Ltd, Calicut. The necessary data were collected from the patient medical charts by using data collection forms. Chronic kidney disease patients with cardiovascular complications or diabetes were included. Result: prevalence of cardiovascular complications (56.65%) was higher than Diabetes(43.42%) in chronic kidney disease patients. Insulin, biguanides, Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors, sulfonylureas and alphaglucosidase inhibitors were used for the management of Diabetes and anticoagulant, diuretics, beta blockers, Calcium channel blocker, statins, Angotensin converting enzyme inhibition, alphablockers, nitrates and digoxin were used in treatment of cardiovascular disease in chronic kidney disease.
