USES OF PURE HONEY IN DIABETIC FOOT WOUND HEALING
Marwan Mansour Borham*
. Abstract Objective: To assess pure non-mixed honey use in the management of diabetic foot wounds healing. Patient and methods: This is a prospective comparative study, in which 30 patients with diabetic foot wounds, varies from ulcer to gangrene in the periphery of the foot, were divided into two groups; fifteen patients treated with pure nonmixed honey as dressing, and fifteen patients with the usual methods of dressing (povidone-iodine and saline). Results: The treatment duration in patients treated with honey dressing in the study group was 26.6 ±12.91 and in the control group was 37.73 ±14.488, with a P-value of 0.0345, which is significant. Regarding the dressing cost for each patient, the use of honey is less expensive than the other methods. A honey bottle was enough for dressing over the study duration (between 7 to 50 days). All honey group patients reported less pain throughout the dressing procedure. When compared to the control, the edema and foul-smelling discharges improved more rapidly. Conclusion: Honey minimized wound edema and odor more effectively and shortened the period of treatment. Keywords: . [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
