PROPHYLACTIC AND THERAPEUTIC POTENTIAL OF ASHWAGANDHA IN MANAGING SARS COV-2 INFECTION

. Abstract As the covid-19 pandemic is progressing, the therapeutic gaps in conventional management have highlighted the need for the integration of traditional knowledge system with modern medicine. Ashwagandha is one of the extensively prescribed herbal drug in Ayurveda practice for its multimodal effects. Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal, WS), may be beneficial in the management of covid-19 as has been highlighted through various studies and research articles. Wathania somnifera is a widely prescribed Ayurvedic botanical herb known as an immunomodulatory, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and adaptogenic properties. Pharmacologically activities of WS have been extensively reported. several clinical studies have reported its safety for use in human. The scientific evidence support the prophylactic as well as therapeutic of withania somnifera to maintain immune homeostasis in inflammatory and infectious pathologies.
